Festival de la Canción Vallenata

The Vallenato Legend Festival has been held in Valledupar since 1968 and stands as the flagship event of vallenato music. It brings together competitions for accordion, caja vallenata, guacharaca and piqueria (sung verbal duels), built around the genre's four traditional rhythms: paseo, merengue, son and puya. Since 2004 it has taken place at the Parque de la Leyenda Vallenata, and the vallenato tradition it celebrates was inscribed by UNESCO in 2015 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
