About
The Festival de Música del Pacífico Petronio Álvarez is held each August in Santiago de Cali, not in Buenaventura, though it takes its name from the composer and singer born there, known as the king of currulao. Founded in 1996, it has become the major showcase for traditional music of the Colombian Pacific coast (currulao, bunde, aguabajo) and Afro-Colombian culture, combining a music competition with dance, food and crafts. It ranks among the most important celebrations of Pacific coast identity in Colombia.
