Overview
About
The Savonlinna Opera Festival takes place inside the medieval Olavinlinna fortress, built in 1475 on a rocky islet, whose inner courtyard serves as an open-air venue. Founded in 1912 by soprano Aino Ackté, it is among the oldest opera festivals still active and gained international standing from 1972 under Martti Talvela.
