Overview
About
Held every year in Cali in tribute to musician Petronio Álvarez, a major figure of Colombian Pacific folklore, this festival is regarded as the country's foremost showcase of Afro-Colombian culture from the Pacific coast. It features a traditional music competition across several categories, including Caucano violin ensembles, marimba groups, traditional chants and chirimía bands, alongside food and craft programming. The event brings together thousands of performers and several hundred thousand visitors to celebrate currulao rhythms and the ancestral traditions of Afro-descendant communities.
