About
The Savaria Historical Carnival is held each summer in Szombathely, in western Hungary, a city built on the site of the ancient Roman settlement of Savaria, and has been a major heritage event in the Western Transdanubia region since 2000. Over several days the historic town centre hosts numerous free venues, with street musicians, a wine street and evening concerts on the beer square. The carnival's centerpiece is its torchlit parades in period costume, drawing several hundred participants who bring different eras of the city's history back to life.
