About
The Bir Music Festival takes place in the village of Bir, in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra Valley at the foot of the Dhauladhar range. Founded in 2020 by Alakhananda Sharma and run entirely by volunteers, it bills itself as India's largest mountain music festival and its only non-stop, non-electronic original music event, nicknamed Pahadon Ka Tyohaar (festival of the mountains). It showcases emerging indie artists, bans single-use plastics, and channels much of its revenue into local homestays and craftspeople.
