About
The Cincinnati May Festival is a choral and orchestral festival held each spring in Cincinnati, Ohio, recognized as the oldest continuously running choral festival in the Western Hemisphere. It was founded in 1873 on the initiative of Maria Longworth Nichols and conductor Theodore Thomas, drawing inspiration from England's Birmingham choral festival tradition. The May Festival Chorus performs major works of the choral symphonic repertoire, and the festival has hosted several world and American premieres, including pieces by Bach and Mahler.
