About
Edinburgh Festival Fringe has taken place every August in Edinburgh, Scotland, since it began in 1947 as an unofficial offshoot of the Edinburgh International Festival. Now the largest performing arts festival in the world, it runs on an open-access basis with no selection committee, letting thousands of companies from dozens of countries perform across hundreds of venues throughout the city. The programme spans theatre, comedy, dance, circus, cabaret, opera and music in all its forms.
