Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru

The Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru traces its roots to a gathering of bards held at Cardigan Castle in 1176, though its modern form dates from 1861. The festival moves to a different location in north or south Wales each year, centred on Welsh-language music, poetry and visual arts, with competitions open to the public. It draws up to 170,000 visitors.
