Overview
About
Founded in 1861 in Aberdare, building on an 18th century bardic tradition, the National Eisteddfod of Wales is held every year in early August in a different town, alternating between north and south Wales, under a large pink pavilion. Competitions in poetry, choral singing and theatre are conducted entirely in Welsh and culminate in the Chairing and Crowning ceremonies.
