About
The International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition is held every five years in Poznań, Poland, in honour of the Polish violin virtuoso and composer Henryk Wieniawski. First staged in Warsaw in 1935 and revived in Poznań in 1952, it is the oldest surviving violin competition in the world and one of its most prestigious, open to violinists under thirty. A founding member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, it holds a central place in Polish cultural life.
