About
The Nuit du Sanpula takes place in Awala-Yalimapo, French Guiana, centered on the sanpula, the traditional Kali'na drum. The day features craft workshops, dance, a Kali'na-language dictation and a parade of traditional attire, before the night brings the Grande Nuit du Sanpula, with traditional groups from French Guiana and Suriname drumming until the early hours. Free to attend, the event has become a key celebration of Kali'na cultural identity, now tied to Indigenous Peoples' Day.
