Monterey International Pop Festival

Held in 1967 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, a site already used for the Monterey Jazz Festival since 1958, this event is regarded as one of the first large rock music gatherings in the United States. Put together in a matter of weeks by John Phillips, Lou Adler and Alan Pariser, it brought together artists from the California rock, folk and soul scenes alongside international musicians such as Ravi Shankar.
