Overview
About
Musica nel Chiostro was a summer outdoor opera festival staged from 1974 to 2004 in the cloister of a semi-derelict former monastery near Batignano, in Tuscany. Founded by Adam Pollock, the company was known for reviving forgotten works by Cesti, Provenzale and Salieri in modern-day premieres, as well as staging Italian premieres of Rameau, Handel, Tippett and Bernstein, and served as a launchpad for young directors such as Graham Vick and Rupert Goold. Italo Calvino wrote a text for the festival built around Mozart's unfinished Zaide.
