New Music Seminar

The New Music Seminar is a music industry conference founded in New York in 1980, co-created by Tommy Boy Records founder Tom Silverman. Originally built around the emerging independent record scene, it combined panels and industry debates with a showcase strand called New Music Nights held in New York clubs, and became known for its legendary MC and DJ battles. After running until 1995, it has been revived more than once and now focuses on shorter sessions and online formats.
