About
Panorama Percussivo Mundial (PercPan) is a festival devoted to percussion music and instruments, founded in Salvador da Bahia in 1994 by anthropologist Elisabeth Cayres after she attended similar festivals abroad. Its first edition already brought together international artists (from Antigua, India) alongside Brazilian figures such as Naná Vasconcelos, Carlinhos Brown and Olodum, under the musical direction of Arrigo Barnabé. Gilberto Gil joined the organization in 1996, and the festival has since featured hundreds of acts from dozens of countries, with occasional editions in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Recife and even Paris.
