Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival

Founded in 1996 at the initiative of conductor Valery Gergiev, this festival is organized by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Europe's leading ensembles. It is held mainly at Theater De Doelen, with each edition built around a different theme, a composer or a musical movement, and featuring symphonic concerts, opera productions, chamber music and educational programs. Free open-air concerts also take place on Schouwburgplein, opening the festival up to a wider audience.
