The San Francisco Blues Festival, founded in 1973 by Tom Mazzolini, was held at Fort Mason in the Marina district and stood for decades as the longest continuously running blues festival in the United States. Over nearly forty years it hosted many leading blues artists before ceasing operations in 2008 for economic reasons.
