The Sun Rock Festival was held in João Pessoa, in Paraíba state, at the Almeidão stadium, bringing together Brazilian and international rock bands. It stood out as the first rock and heavy metal event of this scale staged in a stadium in northeastern Brazil, headlined by the Scorpions' farewell tour. Its unusually large stage and lighting rig, borrowed from major international tours, added to the event's scope.
