About
Sziget Festival takes place every August on Óbuda Island, a river island on the Danube north of Budapest turned into a self-contained site for the event. Started in 1993 as a student gathering, it has grown into one of Europe's largest general-genre festivals, mixing pop, rock, electronic and hip hop across multiple stages. About half its audience travels from abroad.
