About
The Tyagaraja Aradhana is held every January in Thiruvaiyaru, a village in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district where the saint-composer Tyagaraja attained samadhi. Started in 1908 by his disciples, this Carnatic music celebration honours the tradition's 'trinity', Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Shyama Shastri, through five days of concerts, Harikatha recitations and rituals at the saint's shrine. Its high point is the collective singing of the Pancharatna Kritis by Carnatic musicians gathered from across the country.
