Volksstimmefest

Held since 1946 on the Jesuitenwiese meadow in Vienna's Prater park, this festival began as a press event for the newspaper Volksstimme, affiliated with the Austrian Communist Party. It takes place every year on the last weekend before the school year starts, free admission, with several music stages. Its lineup, originally centred on ballroom dance and folk music, broadened to jazz and rock from the 1960s onward.
