About
Wattstax took place in August 1972 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, organized by Stax Records with the Watts Summer Festival, established after the 1965 riots. The concert brought together soul, blues and funk acts from the Stax roster, including Isaac Hayes, the Staple Singers and Albert King, drawing more than 110,000 attendees, with proceeds going to local charities.
