About
The Wiener Festwochen (Vienna Festival) is a major multidisciplinary festival founded in 1951, when Vienna was still occupied by the Allied powers, to reconnect the Austrian capital with international cultural life. Running for five to six weeks each spring, it brings together theatre, opera, and dance from around the world, mixing tradition with contemporary work, and traditionally opens with a free open-air event outside City Hall.
