Woodstock Music and Art Fair

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair took place from August 15 to 18, 1969, on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, roughly 60 kilometers from the town of Woodstock whose name it carries. About 400,000 people gathered there, and the crowd's size led organizers to open the event for free. The site is now home to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which preserves the field and documents the event in a museum.
