About
A major cultural institution in Greece, this festival has been held every year from May to October in Athens and Epidaurus since 1955. Its most iconic stage is the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and 10,000-seat capacity, where ancient tragedies by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides as well as comedies by Aristophanes are performed. The wide-ranging programme also brings music, dance and contemporary work to several landmark venues across Athens.
