About
Founded in 1984 by local enthusiasts, this Welsh festival began as street jazz spilling out of Brecon's pubs and cafes, modelled on New Orleans-style jazz gatherings. Held each year in early August, it quickly drew international musicians and became one of Europe's leading jazz events, combining indoor concerts with street performances. Nearly cancelled in 2009 for lack of funding, it was rescued by Arts Council of Wales support and is now run by a local stakeholders' group.
