Overview

About

The Comblain Jazz Festival was held in the small village of Comblain-la-Tour, part of the municipality of Hamoir in Belgium's Liège province, from 1959 to 1966, before being revived from 2009 to 2016 and again more recently with support from the local tourist office. Founded by American GI Joe Napoli, who had fought in the Battle of the Bulge and settled in the Ourthe valley, it hosted major names such as Chet Baker, Nina Simone, John Coltrane and Ray Charles during its golden years, making it a reference point for jazz in Europe. The event draws on the intimate setting of this riverside village in the Condroz region.
