About
Konfrontationen is a jazz and improvised music festival organised since 1980 by the Jazzgalerie in Nickelsdorf, a village in Burgenland close to the Hungarian border. Starting out as a general jazz gathering, it quickly grew into a stronghold of free jazz and avant garde improvisation with an international reputation, despite taking place in a single small venue, a cafe extended to hold an audience of around three hundred. Founded by Hans Falb, who died in late 2025, the festival marked its 46th edition in 2026 as a tribute to him.
