BBC Cardiff Singer of the World

The BBC Cardiff Singer of the World is an international opera singing competition held every two years in Cardiff, Wales, traditionally at St David's Hall. Founded by the BBC in 1983 to mark the hall's opening, it brings together around sixteen young singers chosen from hundreds of applicants worldwide, performing with ensembles such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The competition has launched the careers of numerous opera singers who went on to international acclaim, including Bryn Terfel and Karita Mattila.
