Overview
About
Founded in 1972 by journalist Alain Pacquier, the Festival de Saintes became a leading event for early and baroque music, propelled by conductor Philippe Herreweghe from 1981. Concerts take place in the town's historic monuments, chiefly the Abbaye aux Dames, as well as the Saint-Eutrope basilica. It keeps a pedagogical mission through the Young Orchestra of the Abbey.
