Festival Européen des Voix Étouffées

The Festival Européen des Voix Étouffées is held in Strasbourg, organized by the Forum Voix Étouffées, founded in 2003 to rediscover the works of composers persecuted by the Nazi regime for their Jewish identity or because their music was branded 'degenerate'. Over several weeks, orchestras from across Europe pay tribute to these musicians through concerts and conferences, reviving works long absent from the repertoire. The festival highlights composers such as Erwin Schulhoff and carries a strong commemorative dimension, confronting antisemitism and Holocaust denial.
