Founded in 1971 near the city of Roskilde, Denmark, the festival is run by a non-profit foundation that donates its proceeds to humanitarian and cultural causes. It gathers around 130,000 participants, volunteers and artists each year on an open-air site featuring rock, pop and electronic music stages.
