Ruhrtriennale

The Ruhrtriennale unfolds from mid-August to mid-September in former industrial sites across the Ruhr region converted into performance venues, with Bochum's Jahrhunderthalle as its signature hall. Founded in 2002 by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia under the impetus of Gerard Mortier, former director of the Salzburg Festival, it runs in three-year cycles, each entrusted to a new artistic director. The festival blends contemporary music, jazz, theatre and dance in interdisciplinary productions that engage with present-day social and global upheavals.
