Overview
About
Founded in 1912 by soprano Aino Ackté, this opera festival is staged in the medieval fortress of Olavinlinna, a 15th century castle on an islet on Lake Saimaa in eastern Finland. Performances take place in the inner courtyard, making use of its distinctive acoustics. The program combines classical repertoire with contemporary productions, guest companies, and a resident orchestra and chorus.
