About
The Smetanova Litomyšl festival has run since 1946 in Litomyšl, the Czech Republic town where composer Bedřich Smetana was born. The country's second-oldest music festival, it unfolds over roughly three weeks in late June and early July, centered on the courtyard of Litomyšl Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site fitted with a retractable roof. The program, dominated by opera and vocal music, brings together the country's leading orchestras, theatres and soloists alongside symphonic, chamber and sacred music.
