Overview
About
Founded in 1946 in the half timbered riverside town of Hitzacker on the Elbe in Lower Saxony, the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker is Germany's oldest chamber music festival. Over nine days around the start of August it brings together established artists and young talent for a programme spanning classical repertoire and new music, with a curious, exploratory approach that favours rediscovered composers and rarely heard works. Since 2016 its artistic direction has been led by Oliver Wille, a founding member of the Kuss Quartet.
