St Magnus International Festival

The St Magnus International Festival has taken place in Kirkwall, in Scotland's Orkney Islands, since 1977, founded by composer Peter Maxwell Davies. It presents a programme of classical and contemporary music, with orchestras, chamber ensembles and new commissions, alongside theatre and literature events. The festival stands out for its island setting around St Magnus Cathedral and its strong historical ties to British contemporary music.
